Why Private Support is Important

The National Audubon Society, like many other conservation organizations, began as a purely volunteer operation. Volunteers still play an important role in Audubon, principally through the work of our 19 active chapters in Ohio, none of which have staff. Over time, however, Audubon learned that there are limits to what can be achieved solely through volunteers. A state office with a full-time staff has allowed us to expand our programs and substantially increase our effectiveness across the whole range of those programs. It also gives Audubon a permanent office in our state capital, from which we can lobby to affect government actions.
